To teach in a maintained school in the UK, you must be registered with the
relevant General Teaching Council.

Annual fee as of April 2006 - March 2007 £33
All teachers, no matter how many/few hours they work, must pay the full
registration fee. If you are employed by a maintained school, you will
receive an allowance of £33 annually. This allowance does not apply to all
supply teachers, especially if you work through an agency. However, you may
be eligible to claim income tax relief against the GTCE fee. Click here to
