supply teachers resources

Websites for Teachers. By Jim Merrett

Have you ever noticed a useful educational website mentioned in an article and thought, “I must make a note of that,” but then thrown the publication away and forgotten to record the website address? Well I’m proud to say that I never have. I have been carefully noting them all down, for my teaching needs, for many years. I included both curriculum subjects and other essentials such as the unions, professional and subject associations, government agencies, SEN, gifted and talented and recently added learning platforms, assessment, behaviour and personalised learning.

I was invited to write articles for a variety of publications, reviewing educational websites and eventually put all the information together as a book. The book is produced as a print-on-demand product so is easily up-dated every month. Many of the websites contain lesson plans, worksheets, presentations and interative online activities. There is, of course, a special section for supply teachers although this won’t be a lot of use in one school I was in a couple of years ago, where I was astounded to be told by the ICT co-ordinator, “We don’t allow supply teachers to use the ICT suite.” I didn’t go back.
